We Gather

CENTERING WORDS

May the brightness of God shine

around us, within us, and through us.

PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL TO WORSHIP

Beyond our busyness, above the cold winter floor there is a glory rising born of heaven and reaching out to each one of us a light that shines through the clouds

     an invitation seeking all of who we are

     that transfigures the world

that transforms darkness into hope, that brings life from a cross where old life ends and new life is born

     In glory Jesus meets us here, raising us from           depths of valley to the height of the mountain,       carrying the weight of our humanity to the             heights of heaven’s glory.

Let us worship from the mountain and hear again

“This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”

OPENING HYMN The Mighty God with Power Speaks No. 13

(Because the singing of hymns is discouraged during this period of pandemic, you are invited to hum or meditate on the verses below.)

The Mighty God with power speaks,

and all the world obeys;

from dawn until the setting sun,

God’s wonder earth displays.

The perfect beauty all around

from Zion's height shines forth;

and stars across the firmament

so brightly beam their worth.

God comes not with a silent form,

but riding on the winds;

before God’s face, the raging storm

its blast of thunder sends.

All hail the Judge, in bold array,

whose promise is to bless;

who sees our sins, yet also feels

our thirst for righteousness.

The heavens declare your justice, Lord,

as endless as the sky;

against the taunts of disbelief,

our God will testify.

Receive my heartfelt gift of thanks,

as honor to your might;

refresh my faith with each new day;

protect me through the night.

CALL TO PRAYERS

The God revealed to us in the pages of scripture is a welcoming and inclusive God who directs us to love one another. We seek to remove all the barriers that keep us from that love. Come now to confess all that separates you from others and from God.

PRAYERS OF APPROACH & CONFESSION

We worship you, O God, with songs of praise.

We worship you with words of prayer

and with ears that listen for you

to speak your saving truth into our lives.

We worship you in the silent spaces

where we struggle for hope and for courage.

We long for a glimpse of your glory:

the glory that shines in the darkness

and the darkness cannot overcome it;

the glory that touches lives with a beauty so holy that it heals the wounded soul;

the glory that gives strength to the weary.

We, who stumble and fall so often, worship you,

longing for your light to shine upon us.

Dazzle us with your holy love,

draw us into your purifying presence,

speak to us your transforming truth.

Then, grant us grace

to live every moment changed by such glory— daring to live with hope and courage and love reflecting the life of Jesus, through whom your glory shines in the most unexpected ways. Amen.

OUR GIFTS OF SACRIFICE and THANKSGIVING Invitation

In a world of shadows and clouds, we are invited to proclaim the light of Christ. May light guide our thoughts and help us know how to give of ourselves and our gifts so that we may become lights in a shadowy world.

Thank you for sending your offerings.

They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.

Musical Meditation

Prayer of Dedication

God of light and love, shine through the gifts we bring before you

now. Speak through our hearts and our actions. Bless our gifts, our offerings, and our very lives, that we may bless others with your presence. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN O Splendor of God’s Glory Bright No. 666

(You are invited to hum or meditate on verses below.)

O splendor of God’s glory bright,

from light eternal bringing light;

O Light of Light, light’s living spring,

true Day, all days illumining:

Come, Holy Sun of heavenly love,

rain down your radiance from above,

and to our inward hearts convey

the Holy Spirit’s cloudless ray.

O Lord, with each returning morn,

your image to our heart is born;

O may we ever clearly view

our Savior and our God in you.

BENEDICTION

Go now, and speak of what you have seen of God’s glory. Do not cling to the holy moments when heaven overshadows you, but as the Lord lives, listen to Christ and follow him from the places of revelation to the places of mission. And may God shine the light of glory into your hearts. May Christ be with you and never leave you.

And may the Spirit renew the image of God within you. We go in peace to love and serve the Lord,

in the name of Christ. Amen.
