We Gather

GATHERING MUSIC

WELCOME

CALL TO WORSHIP
We are gathered to remember whose we are.
We come as we are,
with questions and doubts.

We are gathered to be reminded who it is
that makes our hearts glad.
We come seeking paths of life
and fullness of joy.

We are gathered as part of God’s people, aware of those
Who are no longer living and those missing.
We come in hope, for in God’s presence
there is fullness of joy.

OPENING HYMN    Baptized in Water    No. 482
1. Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
cleansed by the blood of Christ our King;
heirs of salvation,
trusting the promise,
faithfully now God’s praises we sing.

2. Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
dead in the tomb with Christ our King;
one with his rising,
freed and forgiven,
thankfully now God’s praises we sing.

3. Baptized in water,
sealed by the Spirit,
marked with the sign of Christ our King;
born of the Spirit,
we are God’s children;
joyfully now God’s praises we sing.

CALL TO CONFESSION
We give you thanks, O God, that you meet us where we are, including when we hide in fear. Hear us as we confess with our lips and in our hearts those doubts that are separating us from you today

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Hear us, O God, as we confess with our lips and in our hearts those misbeliefs that are separating us from each other, our families, and friends today.

And hear us, O God, as we confess with our lips and in our hearts those fears that are separating us from the neighbors and strangers in our lives and community:

In humility, let us lift our silent prayers to God for the brokenness of this world and for the needs of our community and our hearts.

(Please refer to the deacon’s prayer list)

God in your mercy, Hear our prayers & forgive us. Amen.

Silence

*PASSING THE PEACE
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.
To this peace we were called as members of a single body.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
Find a creative way to Pass the Peace of Christ with one another.

We Reflect

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Mighty God, you spoke the world into being;
speak now to our hearts.
By the power of your Spirit,
make these ancient words live,
that we might become God-bearers to all creation, giving flesh to your future.
For we pray in the name of Jesus,
who leads us into life. Amen.

GOSPEL LESSON     John 20:19–31

SERMON    Out of Touch     Justin Warner

We Respond

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe and confess only one God,
who can do all things,
is all-wise, all-good,
all-just, and all-merciful.
We believe that everything required for our salvation
has been offered and communicated to us in Jesus Christ,
the wisdom of God and God’s eternal Son.
Jesus Christ clothed himself in our flesh:
God and human in one person.
We believe that we are illuminated in faith
by the unfathomable grace of the Holy Spirit.
God imparts this gracious gift.
By faith we receive grace
to live holy lives in awe and reverence for God,
for we receive what the gospel promises
when God gives us the Holy Spirit.
Faith does not cool our desire for good and holy living,
but rather engenders and excites it in us,
leading naturally to good works.
We believe that the sacraments are joined to the Word
in order that the Word may be more fully confirmed.
Baptism is given to us as the pledge of our adoption,
in which we are grafted into the body of Christ,
and renewed in holiness of life by his Spirit.
The Holy Supper of our Lord is a testimony
of our unity with Jesus Christ,
who died only once and was raised for our sake.
The body and blood of Jesus Christ
are food and drink for the soul
just as bread and wine are nourishment for the body.
As for the true Church
we believe that it ought to be governed
in accordance with the order established
by our Lord Jesus Christ.
In this way, pure doctrine can be maintained,
the poor and afflicted can be helped in their need,
assemblies can be gathered in the name of God,
and both great and small can be edified.

OUR GIFTS OF SACRIFICE and THANKSGIVING
Invitation
God has bestowed us with favor and honor
through Jesus Christ.
From this fullness, let us now offer our gifts
of thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

(Thank you for sending your offerings. They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.)

Musical Meditation

Doxology
Praise God whose breath fills all the earth,
whose love reveals our sacred worth,
whose Spirit forms one family,
whose grace and peace bring harmony.
Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

God of life, in whose presence is the fullness of joy,

we offer and entrust to you these portions of our labors, talents, and time. May you receive and use them and us to provide life, hope, and joy to those in need in our world, to your glory. Amen.

*CLOSING HYMN      All Things Bright & Beautiful     No. 20

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all.

1. Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors;
God made their tiny wings. (Refrain)

2. The purple-headed mountain,
the river running by,
the sunset, and the morning
that brightens up the sky: (Refrain)

3. The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden,
God made them every one. (Refrain)

4. God gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell how great is God Almighty, who has made all things well. (Refrain)

*BENEDICTION
As we see God’s love in new life,
let us care for God’s creation
nurturing the plants and all living creatures.
Never taking for granted
what has been so generously given to us.
May the light of God surround you,
the love of Jesus Christ enfold you,
the power of God protect you,
and the presence of the Spirit watch over you.
This day and forever more.
Amen.
