We Gather

CENTERING WORDS

When we love with our lives,

we become reflections of God for all to see.

PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL TO WORSHIP

Love one another, even when love involves risk.

We love as God loves us.

Love and care for others, even when caring is hard. We love and care as God loves and cares for us. Love in truth and action.

By this we are known as children of God.

OPENING HYMN I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art No. 624 (Because the singing of hymns is discouraged during this period of pandemic, you are invited to hum or meditate on the verses below.)

I greet thee, who my sure Redeemer art,

my only trust and Savior of my heart,

who pain didst undergo for my poor sake;

I pray thee from our hearts all cares to take.

Thou art the King of mercy and of grace,

reigning omnipotent in every place:

so come, O King, and our whole being sway;

shine on us with the light of thy pure day.

Our hope is in no other save in thee;

our faith is built upon thy promise free;

Lord, give us peace, and make us calm and sure, that in thy strength we evermore endure.

CALL TO PRAYERS

In trust that our Shepherd knows us through and through, let us offer our prayers of approach and open our hearts to the healing of God’s forgiveness. Let us pray:

PRAYERS OF APPROACH & CONFESSION3

Shepherd of love, guide our thoughts and our actions, that we too might become shepherds of love.

Speak to our hearts as we listen this day, that our hearts may expand and embrace all of your sheep. Love us fully, that we might love all of the flocks of your world as fully as we are loved by you. In your shepherding love, we pray.

(Silence)

Merciful shepherd, give us the grace to love as you love. Give us the courage to love people who frighten us. Grant us the mercy to love with the same great love you have for us.

Guide us as we learn to hear and welcome different voices.

Love through us, that we may welcome and include every person to your community of love.

Awaken our hearts to your generosity

when we neglect to embrace and include others. Forgive us when our love is absent,

and renew your love in our hearts,

that our love may expand to enfold all of your people on earth. In your love and grace, we pray. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD WITH US

The Spirit abides in each of us — loving us, loving through us, forgiving us, and forgiving through us. We are loved and forgiven, even as we love and forgive. Thanks be to God!

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Let us love, not just with words, but with our lives. In this spirit of love, let us share peace and grace with one another. The peace and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Let us pray.

O God, you know us better than we know ourselves. As the scriptures are read, we will listen for your voice. By your Spirit lead us out of our fears and into the knowledge of your love, through Jesus Christ, the Great Shepherd of our souls. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Lord in your mercy/in thanksgiving,

Hear our prayer.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.

OUR GIFTS OF SACRIFICE and THANKSGIVING Invitation

The Shepherd cares for us, providing all that we need in abundance.

The Shepherd calls us to love one another

in truth and action.

May our gifts reflect our trust in the Shepherd’s care. May our offerings show our willingness to love one another.

Thank you for sending your offerings.

They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.

Musical Meditation

Prayer of Dedication

To the one who has commanded us to love one another, we give thanks for the love we have received.

In recognition of all we are given let us now commit to doing love--sharing, caring and sacrificing, being patient, generous, selfless, risking judgment, loss and disappointment.

Let us offer all the love we have in all the ways we can until our doing becomes our being.

Let us do love, let us be love,

in the name of the one who is love. Amen.

We Are Sent

CLOSING HYMN God Be with You Till We Meet Again No. 541 (You are invited to hum or meditate on the verses below.)

God be with you till we meet again;

loving counsels guide, uphold you,

with a shepherd's care enfold you:

God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;

unseen wings protecting hide you,

daily manna still provide you:

God be with you till we meet again.
