January 17, 2021 Worship
Second Sunday after the Epiphany
God knows us better than we know ourselves. God calls us, inviting us on a journey of love.
WELCOME and CALL TO WORSHIP
Jesus comes alongside us and calls us by name: “Grace Presbyterian Church, follow me.” A simple call. A hard call.
Because following requires leaving.
And we look around to see who else Jesus could be talking to.
And we look around to see the trappings of the life we know.
It’s hard to leave our nets and walk away from the lake.
But we have come this far, to this place, where we can listen and be transformed.
OPENING HYMN No. 663
Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun
(Because the singing of hymns is discouraged during this period of pandemic, you are invited to hum or meditate on the verses below.)
Awake, my soul, and with the sun
your daily stage of duty run;
shake off dull sloth, and joyful rise
to pay your morning sacrifice.
Lord, I my vows to you renew.
Disperse my sins as morning dew;
guard my first springs of thought and will,
and with yourself my spirit fill.
Direct, control, suggest, this day,
all I design or do or say,
that all my powers, with all their might,
in your sole glory may unite.
CALL TO PRAYERS
We break our word - God knows; we hurt another - God knows; we ignore the needy - God knows. God also knows the sins we try to hide, even from ourselves. Let us confess to the One who has called us and will make us whole.
PRAYERS OF APPROACH & CONFESSION
Creating God, how deeply you know us. In the mystery of your love, you see who we are and who we might become.
Our bodies are your creation; they are wonderfully made. Our minds reflect your handiwork. Our spirits are a gift from you.
You call us by name and invite us to follow.
Lead us now into the depths of your love.
O God, you call to us.
We hear you, but aren’t sure who is calling.
We hear you, but are distracted by many things.
We hear you, but are afraid to answer.
Open our hearts to your voice.
Help us set aside our doubts, our fears, and our distractions, that we may answer you faithfully. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF GOD WITH US
God searches us, knows us, loves us, and forgives us.
God’s love shelters us and keeps us safe.
SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Each one of us is wonderfully made, the creation of God’s love. Marvel at God’s wondrous works! The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
And also with you.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
We are here, O God, waiting to hear your word. Help us recognize your voice as we listen for your guidance. Search our hearts and open them to your call. We are ready for your word of love. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Lord in your mercy/in thanksgiving,
Hear our prayer.
OUR GIFTS OF SACRIFICE and THANKSGIVING
Every good and perfect gift comes from God, the Lord and Giver of all. We have been given the good sense to use God’s provisions for the purposes God has called us to. May we bring forth the best we can offer, the best we can choose, for the blessing of the world, and for the carrying forth of Christ’s mission.
Thank you for sending your offerings. They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.
Prayer of Dedication
God, you are the source of all goodness and life. We bring our offering to you this day, knowing that all we have comes from you. We hear your call and we answer, bringing all that we have and all that we are. Use our gifts, our talents, and our bodies for your work of peace and justice. Amen.
We Are Sent
CLOSING HYMN No. 741
Guide My Feet
(You are invited to hum or meditate on the verses below.)
Guide my feet while I run this race; (yes, my Lord!)
guide my feet while I run this race; (yes, my Lord!)
guide my feet while I run this race,
for I don’t want to run this race in vain! (race in vain!)
I’m your child . . .
