We Gather

CENTERING WORDS

Laugh with Sarah, as life grows within the womb of an old woman. Stand in amazement with the crowds, as illiterate fishermen perform the miracles of God. Forget what you think you know. Expect miracles. For with God, anything is possible!

PRELUDE

WELCOME

CALL TO WORSHIP

Call to the Lord, who hears our prayers.

Sing to the Lord, who delights in our songs.

Wait for the Lord, the source of our hope.

Worship the Lord, who is worthy of our praise.

OPENING HYMN  No. 485

We Know That Christ Is Raised

We know that Christ is raised
and dies no more.
Embraced by death he broke
its fearful hold,
and our despair he turned
to blazing joy. Alleluia!

We share by water in
his saving death.
Reborn we share with him
an Easter life
as living members of
a living Christ. Alleluia!

The Father's splendor clothes
the Son with life.
The Spirit's power shakes
the church of God.
Baptized we live with God
the Three in One. Alleluia!

A new creation comes
to life and grows
as Christ's new body takes
on flesh and blood.
The universe, restored
and whole, will sing: Alleluia!

CALL TO CONFESSION

We know too well our foolishness, our brokenness, our human ways of doing things.  But God knows our hearts, our hopes, our desire to be made new.  As we offer our prayers of confession, let us open ourselves to God, who will forgive us and give us new life.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Steadfast source of mercy and grace, we long for you to touch our lives, as you touched the lives of Sarah and Abraham; we yearn to laugh at blessings that are so unlikely, we can scarcely believe them; we desire to feel in our very bones, that no problem we face is beyond your care. Grant us the wisdom to put our trust in you, and to offer you our songs of praise and our shouts of joy. Amen.

Please refer to the deacon’s prayer list.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayers & forgive us. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD WITH US

In God’s faithfulness, we are made well. In Christ’s love, we discover righteousness and peace. In the Spirit’s sustaining power, we find strength for the journey. Thanks be to God.

SONG OF RESPONSE  No. 582

Glory to God

Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,

and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,

and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

The peace of Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

We Respond

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We believe that our lives are held within the encircling love of God, who knows our names and recognizes our deepest needs.

We believe that Christ is the divine Child of the living God, and that his grace is like living waters that can never be exhausted.

We believe in the birthing, renewing, enabling Spirit of God who yearns over our welfare as a mother yearns for her child.

We believe that God is in the arid desert as well as in green pastures, and that hard times and disciplines are also loving gifts.

We believe that our journey has a purpose and a destination, and that our path leads to a human glory we cannot yet imagine.

We believe that in the church we are fellow pilgrims on the road, and that we are called to love one another as God loves us.

This is our faith, and we are humbled to profess in Jesus the Christ. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

OUR GIFTS OF SACRIFICE and THANKSGIVING

Invitation

Jesus gathered the disciples and gave them authority to heal the sick,  cast out evil, and proclaim the good news. Let us present our offerings for the mission of the church, bearing witness to the kingdom of God.

Thank you for sending your offerings. They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.

Musical Meditation

Song of Response   No. 709

God we honor you.

God we trust in you.

God we worship and adore you.

Take what we bring, offered to you.

Teach us to show your abundant blessings.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

Touch these gifts, O God, with your manifold blessings. Touch our very lives, that we may be instruments of your hope. May our gifts and our lives, bring your healing, love, and compassion to a world in need. Amen.

We Are Sent

CLOSING HYMN  No. 764

For the Troubles and the Sufferings

For the troubles and the sufferings of the world,
God, we call upon your mercy:
the whole creation’s laboring in pain!

Lend an ear to the rising cry for help
from oppressed and hopeless people:
Come! Hasten your salvation, healing love!

We pray for peace,
the blessed peace that comes from making justice,
to cover and embrace us.
Have mercy, Lord!

We pray for power,
the power that will sustain your people’s witness:
until your Kingdom come,
Kyrie eleison!
