We Gather

CENTERING WORDS

Sing to our God, who brings us into a future of hope and life.

PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL TO WORSHIP

from Exod. 14, 15; Rom. 14

Sing of God’s mercy and grace.

Sing of God’s strength and might.

Praise God with laughter and joy.

Praise God with feasting and dance.

For God protects the lowly

and avenges the misdeeds of the mighty.

God brings forth justice and righteousness,

saving the weak from the cruelty of the powerful.

Sing of God’s mercy and grace.

Sing of God’s strength and might.

OPENING HYMN  No. 664

Morning Has Broken

(Because the singing of hymns is discouraged during this period of pandemic, you are invited to meditate on verses 1 & 3 below.)

Morning has broken like the first morning;

blackbird has spoken like the first bird.

Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!

Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain's new fall sunlit from heaven,

like the first dewfall on the first grass.

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,

sprung in completeness where God's feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning,

born of the one light Eden saw play!

Praise with elation; praise every morning,

God's re-creation of the new day!

CALL TO PRAYERS

We do not have to beg God to forgive us, but simply confess our foolish words, our mistaken acts, our grudging hearts.  Let us pray together, saying,

PRAYERS OF CONFESSION & INTERCESSION

Merciful God, we are ever in need of your grace and your mercy When we have injured your little ones, forgive us. When we have laughed at others’ misfortunes, pardon us. When we have belittled the weak, humble us. Help us walk the trials of life with your powerful hope and your loving grace.

Gracious God, renew our minds with the power of your Holy Spirit. Cleanse our spirits with the mercy of your grace. Bring us into fellowship with one another and grant us courage to defend the lowly. Part the waters of our troubled thoughts, that we might see others as you see them. Protect us with your powerful hand, that we might sing of your faithfulness and dance to your glory. Amen.

Let us lift our prayers to God for the brokenness of this world and for the needs of our community and our hearts.

Silence

ASSURANCE OF GOD WITH US

Here is the good news.  God does not hold a grudge against us.  God lets go of anger to welcome us as sisters and brothers of Jesus.

We will not be afraid, but will open our hearts and lives to God's compassionate grace.  Thanks be to God, we are forgiven!  Amen.

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

The one who rescues us from perishing calls us into fellowship this day. Let us give thanks for the love of God.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

And also with you.

Thank you for sending your offerings. They make a great difference to our church’s work in the world.

Musical Meditation

Prayer of Dedication

May these simple gifts offer a welcome to the friendless, a meal for the hungry, shelter for those in disasters, and hope for all who are despised in our times.  In the name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

CLOSING HYMN  No. 754

Help Us Accept Each Other

(You are invited to meditate on verses 1and 3 below.)

Help us accept each other as Christ accepted us;

teach us as sister, brother, each person to embrace.

Be present, Lord, among us and bring us to believe

we are ourselves accepted, and meant to love and live.

Let your acceptance change us, so that we may be moved

in living situations to do the truth in love;

to practice your acceptance until we know by heart

the table of forgiveness, and laughter’s healing art.
